(CNN) -
NBA star LeBron James admitted that he was initially skeptical of the COVID-19 vaccine, but after researching, he decided that getting vaccinated was the right thing to do for him and his family.
When James was asked about advocating for the covid-19 vaccine, he said it was not his place to impose that decision on others.
James and his teammates are preparing for the season and the remarks were made on their annual Lakers media day in El Segundo, California.

James said Tuesday, "Everyone has their own choice to do what they think is right for themselves and their family and things of that nature. I know I was very skeptical about it. But after doing my research and things of that nature, I felt that it was the most suitable not only for me, but also for my family and my friends. So I decided to do it. "
When asked if he would use his platform to talk about the importance of the vaccine, James said he did not want to get involved in what other people should do with their bodies: "You have to do what's best for yourself and your family."
Regarding the team's projected 100% vaccination rate before the season, James said, "At the end of the day, you're always trying to find a way to always be available and protect each other."
