“I married my dream man,” says Waltraud Maas, beaming about her Hubert.

That was 60 years ago.

The couple celebrated a diamond wedding in Moosinning.

- As luck would have it, the two met in 1959 at a tea dance in Oldendorf, Lower Saxony.

The young man, who was born in Lower Silesia, worked for the Bundeswehr at the air base in Erding and visited his mother.

And there he met his Waltraud, who comes from Lower Saxony.

“That was fate,” says Waltraud Maas.

There were civil marriages in Erding and church weddings in Oldendorf.

The couple lived in Erding for ten years and in Aufhausen for ten years before moving to Moosinning, which has been their adopted home for 37 years.

Waltraud and Hubert Maas have three children, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Hubert Maas (84) worked for twelve years at the air base and later at MBB in Ottobrunn.

His 82-year-old wife Waltraud began training as an agriculture teacher, but then devoted herself entirely to the family.

When the children were big, Waltraud and Hubert Maas went on trips and got to know 17 countries, including Costa Rica, China, Indonesia and countries in Africa.

Waltraud Maas' passion was photo safaris.

“The animals - I loved that,” she enthuses.

In the meantime, both of them prefer to stay at home and lovingly care for their dog there.

“Now everything has calmed down,” says Waltraud Maas.

Her husband is an enthusiastic singer, a member of the church choir and the Moosinning Liedertafel, where he is the second chairman.

The regulars' table of the cycling group in the Daimer Wirt is also important to him.

The two enjoy their time together: “We'll make the years that we have left at home,” says Waltraud Maas with a smile.

On the anniversary of the marriage, Moosinnings Mayor Georg Nagler also brought his congratulations.
