The beginning of the Greek revolution against the Ottoman Empire 200 years ago was celebrated with a large parade in Stuttgart on Saturday.

The Germans were linked to the Hellenic Revolution 200 years ago.

The Greek Revolution had triggered a philhellenic movement with great mobilizing power throughout Germany.
Of the approximately 1,200 Philhellenes who traveled to Greece from the north and west of Europe from 1821 to support the struggle for freedom, by far the largest part came from Germany, according to the German embassy in Athens.

The ex-boxer and current politician Vitali Klitschko will give the traditional speech on democracy on October 9th in Leipzig this year.
Klitschko has been Lord Mayor of Leipzig's Ukrainian twin city Kiev since 2014.
He will speak in the Nikolaikirche, one of the most important places of the peaceful revolution in Leipzig.
