After a day in the dark, power supply is renewed in Lebanon: "This is not normal"
The energy ministry said it had received $ 100 million in credit from the central bank to issue tenders to import fuel, and the foreign military had provided assistance to the two major power plants that had been shut down.
However, the power supply is still extremely limited, and citizens are desperate.

The power supply in Lebanon was renewed today (Sunday) after a day during which the two largest power plants in the country were shut down due to the severe shortage of fuel - the Ministry of Energy announced.
The Ministry of Energy said it had received a $ 100 million loan from the central bank to issue tenders to import fuel for energy production, adding that the government electricity grid had returned to the same level of activity that preceded its shutdown yesterday - also only partially.
Following the power outage, the Lebanese army yesterday agreed to supply 6,000 liters of fuel to the two main power plants, in the north and south.
The power outage exacerbated the hardships faced by Lebanese citizens, who are suffering from heavy unemployment, a surge in the prices of basic goods and a shortage of food - a result of Lebanon's economic collapse.
Since 2019, the value of the pound has fallen by 90%.

Many citizens rely on diesel-powered private generators, but they too are in short supply.
"Once electricity was available for two hours, or an hour, during the day and for two hours at night, now there is nothing, the price has doubled," said Muhammad Rizek, a restaurant owner from Beirut.
"Gas and fuel prices have gone up, it's not normal, we are done. In the meantime we are surviving on our savings, but they will run out and we will not be able to continue. We cannot continue at all."
The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund are demanding that Lebanon carry out reforms in the energy sector in order to receive aid.
Meanwhile, Lebanon is using Iranian fuel imported into the country by Hezbollah through Syria, despite fears of US sanctions.
At the same time, the new government is negotiating electricity supplies from Jordan and natural gas from Egypt through Syria, but this will only start flowing to the country in a few months.
