Hello summer time!

On Sunday the clocks are put back one hour - but is the time change still appropriate?

We asked experts.

Munich - the last hour should have struck long ago - and yet it comes twice a year: the time change!

As early as 2018, 4.6 million people in the EU voted for the end of summer and winter time, the European Parliament spoke out in favor of abolishing it - but nothing has happened so far.

And that's why our clocks in and around Munich are set back from 3 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Sundays.

What many are on the point of!

Time change - body & medicine

Dr. Wolfgang Ritter, general practitioner in the practice of Dr. Grassl in Obersendling observes that the time change “disturbs the biorhythm of many of my patients. Many people have fixed times when they fall asleep and wake up. That will now be changed by an hour - but the body stays with the old days. ”This means that some people are less resilient, tired and feel limp. Dr. Ritter: "It makes no medical sense to disrupt the human biorhythm, so this time change is simply unnecessary!" Michael Wittmann, Managing Director of the Association of Nursing in Bavaria (VdPB), also sees problems: The time change does not "do the responsible task necessarily easier. For caregivers who work night shift on the corresponding weekends, it is particularly annoying in autumnbecause they have to work an hour longer. "

Time change - animals & traffic

Strange at first listen, but: Animals are also affected by the time change. This is especially true for hedgehogs. Angelika Nelson, biologist at the State Association for Bird Protection, explains: “As nocturnal animals, they are out and about at dusk and cross streets. Due to the time change, twilight now falls earlier for us when the rush hour traffic on the streets is still in full swing. This can be fatal for the hedgehog. We fear that in the next few weeks, as long as hedgehogs are still active before hibernation, we will receive more reports of dead hedgehogs being run over. ”However, the topic also affects larger animals - and is therefore also a danger for people. Volker Bauer, member of the executive committee of the Bavarian Hunting Association, says: “In the winter time, accidents with wildlife increase in the mornings and evenings.Because of the time change, the activity phase of the game in the twilight and darkness suddenly coincides with the phases of increased traffic. So it is not the number or behavior of the wild animals that changes, but while roe deer and stag change from so-called grazing areas in the meadows and fields back to their places of residence - forest or thickets - there is suddenly a higher volume of traffic. It is therefore particularly important for road users to drive with increased caution and particularly foresight! School and time change

The ideal time to start the first lesson has been argued for years - many would like to have it later. Isn't the change to wintertime a good thing because you can sleep a little longer? Simone Fleischmann, President of the Bavarian Teachers' Association, says: “Whether or not the time change means additional stress depends on the age of the pupils. The biorhythms of children and adolescents are diametrically different: the starting times of school should do justice to this. ”Time changes played less of a role:“ For some adolescents it would be much better if school didn't start until nine o'clock, but eight o'clock is exactly for some elementary school children right. ”In principle, the teachers keep an eye on the time change - and the consequences for the students. That means, for example: "After the time change, we will not have a school assignment written in the first lesson ..."

Economy basically has no problem with the time change

Bertram Brossardt, General Manager of the Association of Bavarian Economy (vbw), sees basically no problem with the time change - everyone knows it, and most companies would have no problems with it.

However, he thinks that caution is required when discussing the abolition!

Because, according to Brossardt: “If the time change were abolished, this would have to be done uniformly throughout the EU.

A patchwork quilt from different time zones would unnecessarily burden economic cooperation in the European internal market.

Close partner and neighboring countries are not allowed to suddenly live in different time islands. "

A subject for politics

I don't notice the time change very much: I am self-employed and can design my own schedule.

After a day I got used to the change.

Of course, I notice that it will be dark an hour earlier.

But it just has to do with the seasons.

Still, it would be better if there was only one time left - I don't need to switch.

Maybe politics will take care of the problem.

Chaos - inside and out!

I don't think much of the time change.

I think it only causes complications - the sleep-wake rhythm is already severely disturbed in both children and adults.

The time change confuses the internal clock even more.

I work as an osteopath for children.

I notice again and again how much chaos this causes, both internally and externally.

If I could, I would like to leave the clock change easy.

Better without changing

From Sunday it will feel dark again with the winter time an hour earlier than at the moment.

However, the time change from summer to winter time is even easier for me than the other way around.

Then for a few days I get a little harder out of my bed.

In general, I would think it would be better if there was no time change at all ...
