Poland continues to refuse non-governmental doctors the care of migrants on the EU's external border with Belarus.
As the TV station TVN24 reported, an attempt to mediate by the highest dignitary of the otherwise influential Catholic Church also failed.
Wojciech Polak, the Archbishop of Gniezno and Primate of Poland, had received a negative response to his letter to Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminski, the aid organization "Mediziner am Grenz" (Medycy na Granicy) announced on Twitter. The minister announced that he was not interested in talking to the aid organization.
The organization has been trying for weeks to gain access to the people stranded on the border between Belarus and Poland.
“We know dozens of people there are in urgent need of medical attention.
We know of several deaths and we know that there will be even more casualties if medical aid is blocked further, "the 42 medically trained volunteers who claim to be present, wrote a week ago in a call made by the government-critical newspaper" Gazeta Wyborcza «published.
The state border guards also refuse to work with them, referring to the current state of emergency, the organization said.
Since September 2nd, a state of emergency has been in effect in the Polish border communities with Belarus.
With the entry ban for human rights organizations and journalists, the Polish government wants to prevent migrants from being supported by the Polish side when crossing the border.
The Polish authorities are accusing the Belarusian ruler Alexander Lukashenko of bringing refugees from crisis regions to the EU's external border in an organized manner.
