Occupation of the University of Nanterre: fifth day of mobilization for the "sans-facs"

2021-11-01T18:56:59.543Z

Students and activists are still demanding the assignment of about sixty of their comrades. They organized a new rally

The banner of support for “sans-fac” still floats in the windows of the first floor of the Grappin building, on the campus of the University of Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine).

Since October 27, students and activists have occupied the offices of the presidency to demand the registration of "sans-facs", numbering 61 according to the student union UNEF.

A number that does not confirm the presidency, which claims not to have obtained a detailed list from the collective.

The representatives of the “sans-facs” and of the presidency met last Friday to try to find a compromise.

"The 'sans-fac' have proposed that a minority of students be registered outside Nanterre, through the rectorate," the UNEF explained on Monday in a press release.

"We will lift the occupation if this compromise is accepted," announced Victor Mendez, representative of the student union.

For the moment, we have not had a precise answer on this point ”.

Assignments outside Nanterre at the center of negotiations

During the rally on Monday, in the presence of several trade unions, students and activists called for continued mobilization.

However, the establishment affirms its desire to maintain dialogue.

"We are working with the rectorate to obtain places by examining each file, but we will not be able to welcome all the students," recalls Philipe Gervais-Lambony, president of the University of Nanterre.

"The assignment of new students is likely to be done to the detriment of the quality of teaching", estimates Pierre Ouzoulias, senator (PCF) of Hauts-de-Seine, former professor at the university, and displayed support of the presidency.

But the activists refuse that all the unassigned students are directed out of Nanterre.

“It intrigues me about the collective's intentions,” wonders Philippe Gervais-Lambony, who sees this refusal as a political gesture.

For the time being, he is asking for the end of the occupation of his premises and the continuation of discussions with the “sans-facs”, who are preparing to spend a sixth consecutive night in the offices of the Grappin building.
