The Auer Voices are making a name for themselves again: The choir, which is known for its creative projects, has covered a Coldplay hit and made a video for it.

Au / Hallertau

- It's four minutes and 41 seconds that give the viewer goose bumps: The Auer Voices, the choir of the non-profit music association Nandlstadt, recently released a music video that sets high standards both vocally and cinematically.

A total of around 50 people were involved in the production, which started in July and has now been finalized.

The ballad that the Auer Voices perform a cappella in the clip is the Coldplay classic “Fix You”. In keeping with the chorus line “Lights will guide you home” (in German: “Lights will guide you home”), the choir members march through dark alleys and streets while their path is set in scene by atmospheric light sources. The specialty of the video, however, is that the picture is played over long distances at half speed, while the singing is still synchronized with the movements of the lips. A homage to the original Coldplay music video, in which front man Chris Martin also walks through the night streets singing in slow motion.

While money does not play a role in the popular British band, the Auer Voices is a pure amateur amateur choir.

How it was possible for him to cope with such a professional production, explains organization manager Stefan Hofstetter: “There was funding from the Free State of Bavaria for musical projects.

We thought: If we get everything paid for, why not? ”The subsidy was then mainly used for renting cameras and equipment.

And the group itself has capable people who can do something with the equipment. Production was in the hands of choir director Thomas Hofstetter in the musical field, and Auer Voices tenor Lucas Plank in the cinematic discipline with his Moosburg company redtec.productions.

The street scenes were filmed in Mainburg, “because there were the right amphitheater levels at the grammar school there - and then, conveniently, a filming permit was also available for the rest of the location,” says Stefan Hofstetter.

To get the slow motion effect, the singers had to sing at double the speed - which turned out to be quite demanding.

The singing that can be heard in the finished film was recorded in a makeshift music studio that Thomas Hofstetter had specially set up.

Creative and digital

Even before the pandemic, the choir was considered progressive in terms of digitization.

A special choir app has been used for a long time to exchange ideas.

During Corona, head Thomas Hofstetter made the songs digitally available to his troupe so that their voices could be recorded individually and combined into a polyphonic piece.

Everyone was able to practice their own voice individually or in multiple voices via the online platform.

So that nobody forgot how to sound together as a real choir, numerous recordings of all members were merged in 2020.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Among them was the cover of the song "Numb" by the US band Linkin Park, which the Auer Voices also filmed.

In the BR competition "By far the best choir in the times of Corona" they won an audience award.

With all their talent for music videos: The Auer Voices long for appearances in front of a lively audience.

Rehearsals are currently underway for a performance on December 17th in Abensberg.

Then the singers will get direct feedback from their audience again - and not just likes and social media comments.
