Fighting abandoned vehicles:
The Knesset plenum today (Wednesday) approved in a preliminary reading the Clean Maintenance Bill (Amendment - Towing Abandoned Vehicles), 5721-2021 by MK Eitan Ginzburg.
In order to alleviate the parking shortage, it was determined that it would be possible to park a vehicle without movement for 30 days instead of the 60 days stipulated by law today.
In addition, the competent authority may order the towing of a vehicle without a license and a vehicle without a compulsory insurance policy - ten days from the date of affixing a notice on the vehicle.
This towing option is also possible from a shared parking lot in a shared house.
The explanatory memorandum reads: "Parking shortage is growing and on the other hand abandoned vehicles steal many parking spaces and cause suffering to drivers and waste valuable time in searching for available parking. Authorities are unable to reduce the phenomenon because an abandoned vehicle owner can move his vehicle Of the number of days until the vehicle is towed. "
MK Ginzburg: "Right now there are thousands of abandoned vehicles in the heart of cities, around the cities in the country, which occupy parking spaces for many months, literally incubating there.
"There is no justification for public parking spaces to be occupied for many months by abandoned vehicles, certainly not when it is sometimes a matter of scrap car dealers and spare parts that it pays to leave the vehicle on the street and not in the parking lot."
