In the nine days to the end of the Legislative Council election, the government has made every effort to urge voters to vote. For the first time ever, free rides will be arranged across Hong Kong on polling day. Participants include the MTR, a number of franchised buses and trams.

Regarding the MTR, it is applicable to local services, including Light Rail and MTR buses, but not including the Airport Express.

The tram covers the whole line.

Franchised buses cover the franchised routes of KMB, NWFB, Citybus, Long Win Bus and New Lantao Bus, but do not include airport buses "A" and "NA" lines, "B" lines between ports, and sightseeing buses "H" Line, overnight bus "N" line, long-distance bus new service "P" line, and certain routes running south of Lantau.

A government spokesperson thanked all public transport operators and their employees for making special arrangements on the day to provide citizens with free ride concessions.

Free rides are arranged from the first bus to the last bus

Free rides on polling days can be described as an unprecedented measure. Free rides will start from the first train and continue to the last train on polling days. A government spokesperson said that normal service levels will be maintained at that time and will be subject to passenger demand and actual traffic conditions. Routes and time slots strengthen services.

Public transport operators will announce further details separately.

On the same day, the Emergency Traffic Coordination Center of the Transport Department will closely monitor the situation in Hong Kong, coordinate with different departments and operators to meet passenger demand on the election day, and implement appropriate traffic management measures with the police.

Operators will strengthen their manpower to help maintain the order of passengers waiting and boarding.

The spokesman pointed out that since polling day falls on a Sunday, it is expected that there will be more demand for public transportation than usual. Before going out, the public should pay attention to the real-time traffic conditions and real-time information provided by public transportation operators, and plan their itineraries properly. Allow plenty of time for traffic, and at the same time, be patient and pay attention to road safety when waiting for public transport services.
