The US government gave the green light on Friday, December 10 to a possible sale to Greece of four frigates, competing with Paris, which in September concluded a prior agreement on the sale of three French frigates to the Greek navy.

In a statement, the State Department announced that it had approved the plan to sell four combat frigates and their equipment, worth 6.9 billion, less than three months after the signing in Paris by French President Emmanuel Macron and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reached an agreement for a similar contract, which remains to be finalized.
France and Greece announced the signing, on September 29, of a strategic cooperation partnership in defense and security, involving the purchase of military equipment, including three defense and intervention frigates.
