Today, US President Joe Biden declared a state of emergency in Kentucky due to tornadoes that struck the state and five other states, killing dozens of people.

Reuters quoted the White House as saying that Biden had ordered federal assistance to those affected by the hurricane.

Biden had previously spoken with the governors of five storm-hit states, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee, to express his commitment to delivering aid quickly.

Earlier today, the US President described the hurricanes that left dozens of victims in the middle of the United States as an "unimaginable tragedy."

In a new statistic, the death toll from hurricanes and storms that struck five US states in the central and southern parts of the country has risen to at least 78. Seventy people were killed in Kentucky alone, while three others died in Tennessee and two people in Arkansas, and two people died in Illinois as a result of the collapse of a warehouse for a company. A previous death toll from these hurricanes that swept Kentucky and five other US states today is more than 70.
