A 19-year-old inmate from the Gradignan (Gironde) penitentiary center died of an overdose on the night of Friday 10 to Saturday 11 December, in the premises of the prison, which she had just returned to after having escaped. learned AFP from corroborating sources.
The young woman, who was on semi-liberty and following a school course, had not returned to her cell on Thursday afternoon.
She was declared "
escaped
", according to a prison source.

The fugitive was found the next day at her mother's home in Mont-de-Marsan (Landes), where municipal police came to arrest her, the prosecution said.
On returning to the prison, where she was to integrate the women's quarter, she had an “
overdose
” and “
could not be resuscitated
” by the guards and the emergency services on the spot.
"A strong dose of cocaine"?
She had been sentenced for "
acts of domestic violence
" and was released in a few weeks.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning to find out the circumstances of the death, said the prosecution.
The investigation was entrusted to the police officers of the Departmental Security.
