People who have been vaccinated against corona in the booster dose have a significantly lower chance of developing a serious disease than the Omicron strain, according to a new study by Sheba Medical Center and the Ministry of Health's central laboratory for viruses published tonight (Saturday).

In the study, the blood of people who received the booster dose was tested against vaccinated people who received only two vaccine doses.

The study shows that the antibodies in the bodies of vaccinated people in two doses, which has been half a year since they received the second dose - do not neutralize the omicron strain at all.

Accordingly, they are prone to serious illness.

The results of the study come against the background of an increase in morbidity data in the new strain.

In the last day, 20 new deaths were discovered.

To date, 55 verified with the Omicron strain have been diagnosed in Israel, with 42 of them being boosted or freshly recovered.

However, the ministry suspects that there are another 51 cases of exposure to the variant that have not yet been received to the heights flooring results.

36 of those 55 verified returned to Israel from South Africa, Britain, France, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Belarus, Hungary, Italy and Namibia.

8 of them became infected in the community.

The hospital said that "this is the first study describing the effectiveness of the third dose, and it is based on the exclusive data available at Sheba as part of the large serology study conducted among health workers at the medical center."

Prof. Gili Regev-Yohai, director of the Infection Prevention and Control Unit at Sheba Medical Center, said: "The findings of the study emphasize the importance of raising immunization rates as an effective and necessary step in cutting off the chains of infection and the spread of the virus."
