A teacher from a vocational high school in Angers was indicted on Friday for "
inciting racial or religious discrimination
", "
moral harassment
" and "
false denunciation
", AFP learned on Sunday from the prosecution.
This indictment follows the complaint of a student filed in early December, told AFP the public prosecutor, Eric Bouillard, confirming information from
Le Monde
.
During a course in this Catholic establishment under contract, the teacher allegedly "
invited
" one of his Muslim students to "
change his religion
". The teacher, contacted by
Le Monde
, pleads a misunderstood stroke of humor. Placed under judicial control, he was "
banned from exercising the teaching profession
," said Bouillard. He will appear on May 4 before the criminal court.
According to the daily, the teacher is also "
mayor of a municipality of 7,000 inhabitants and president of a community of municipalities
".
He is "
currently included in the Republicans
" after having "
previously campaigned alongside Philippe de Villiers (Movement for France) and Nicolas Dupont-Aignan (Debout la France)
".
