Due to the corona pandemic, private individuals are buying a little more Christmas trees than usual this year, companies and shops a little less.

In contrast to the Germany-wide trend, the topic of online trading hardly plays a role in the Würmtal.

Würmtal -

Christmas tree sales began again in the Würmtal: Nordmann firs from a plantation in Denmark, for example, are offered by the Zanker garden center in Gauting. "The majority of the trees are 1.50 to 2.50 meters tall, some are over three meters or a little more than a meter," reports Christine Janssen, one of the responsible employees.

Due to the exceptional Corona situation, private individuals bought a little more trees than usual, since many do not travel or do not visit as usual, so spend more time at home and therefore get their own tree.

In contrast, demand from shops, restaurants and companies has fallen somewhat, says Christine Janssen.

The head of the garden center "goes to Denmark himself in October to choose our trees, which are then marked accordingly," says Janssen.

The tree must match the jewelry

Online retail, on the other hand, hardly plays a role in Christmas trees in the Würmtal: “Because everyone has different jewelry at home, which the tree must match exactly.

That is why everyone needs a specific tree that you have to see and select beforehand. ”Across Germany, around ten percent of trees are now bought online.

For well over 30 years, Andreas Bassmann has been selling Christmas trees on Pasinger Strasse in Graefelfing - also almost exclusively from Nordmann firs, "because these are the most popular, look the most beautiful and also have the least needles," explains Bassmann.

The trees and individual branches from Denmark, purchased from wholesalers, are priced between 18 and 45 euros, depending on their size.

Bassmann also has some organic trees in its range, "which are difficult to get," says Bassmann, especially if the price and quality are to be right.

Some customers come twice

The big marital dispute about buying a tree has not yet taken place at the stand, but it is presumed that it is sometimes carried out at home. Because "a number of customers come twice because they couldn't agree the first time," says Bassmann with a smile. According to his own statement, the tree merchant will allegedly go to the Caribbean with the money he earned after the Christmas tree season.

As every year, Harry Bittner set up his stand in the beer garden of the Pe.Es.Kottmeier restaurant in Planegg.

With him, too, the overall demand is stable - private people buy a little more, companies a little less.

The trees from the Bavarian Forest, also for the most part from Nordmann firs, range between 15 and 150 euros.

The prices rose only moderately.

“Most customers buy trees the size of living rooms between two and 2.30 meters.

At churches and companies it is sometimes five meters, ”reports Bittner.

“Buying a Christmas tree, looking around, choosing and driving home is a small event for many in the Würmtal during Advent,” reports Harry Bittner - and probably one of the other main reasons why hardly any trees are ordered online here.
