How to bring Pantone's color of the year into your home according to interior designers

2021-12-15T21:46:17.363Z

2022 already has its Pantone and it is the 'Very Peri' shade and a group of experts gives us recommendations to use the shade at home.

Pantone is already looking ahead, specifically to 2022, and announced the color of the year.

Nicknamed "Very Peri," this shade marks the first time the company created a color from scratch, rather than delving into its vast archive of options, according to Leatrice Eiseman, director of the Pantone Color Institute.

It was really important for us to create a new color, because now we have a very new vision of the world.

It is literally the happiest and warmest of all shades of blue.

Interior design experts couldn't agree more, telling us (practically in unison) that Very Peri is

"

absolutely suitable for home interiors".

"It's bold, but it's also serene, it's equal parts lively and calm, it has some bright energy, but it also feels comforting," explains Think Chic Interiors founder Malka Helft of White Plains, New York.

"And I love that it can add a lot of design 'oomph' to a space quite easily."

Bringing more color into the home, says Shaolin Low, founder of the Honolulu-based Studio Shaolin, is always a good thing. "I think after the neutral years of gray, this is an incredible change and moves us towards eclectic styles that we are starting to see," she says, adding: "It's relaxing, playful and feminine, which always makes for a great space, and it will blend in easily with other styles, so I think it's kind of a neutral splash of color, present, but not overbearing. "

Lance Thomas of Louisiana-based Thomas Guy Interiors agrees, saying that color is actually a versatile workhorse that we should all have in our armories. "Very Peri is a great color choice for warming a cool-toned room, while staying in a similar color family," says Thomas. "Table lamps or curtains would be a great way to do it. Conversely, Peri can also be used to cool a warmer-toned room."

So how exactly do we infuse a little Very Peri into our homes? Well, there are practically only two ways to do it: go big or go small. If you're going to go big, you might consider painting a wall or an entire space in the tone. "We love using a color like this in a serene space like a bed or bathroom," says Nina Grauer, director and co-founder of Dekay and Tate Interiors, which has offices in Florida and Colorado. "It packs a punch, but still feels relaxing and is the perfect setting for those areas. It's probably best used on an accent wall, even a ceiling!"

Zane Kearney, Senior Director of Art and Design at Ruggable advises: "If you're a maximalist, you'll want to make sure you're using a good range of complementary colors like a nice teal or sage-green to keep it fresh and fun."

If that's a bit daunting, baby steps are a better Very Peri tactic for you.

"Bedding would be a wonderful place to start," recommends Paige Gray, partner and principal interior designer at British Columbia firm Parker & Harlow.

Gray adds that color can also be injected through some paint on the front door, tile in the bathroom, or a textured seagrass wallpaper behind the bedroom headboard.
