At least five people were killed by a tornado that swept the Great Plains and the Midwest in the US states of Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota.
The Associated Press quoted the National Weather Service as saying today that the hurricane that hit southern Minnesota killed five people in separate incidents.
The agency added that the storm moved north of the Great Lakes to Canada today, with strong winds and snow continuing to blow.
More than 400,000 homes and businesses were left without power in Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa and Kansas due to the bad weather.
