Pasing loses the next traditional business.

The Keller bakery has been supplying its customers with rolls, pretzels and the like for 83 years. The doors will finally close on December 31st.

This shop is cult: entire generations of people from Pasing * made the pilgrimage to Gräfstrasse 68 to buy fresh rolls and crispy pretzels at the Keller bakery.

The display is still full and ingredients such as flour and yeast are waiting to be processed in the bakery.

But on December 31st the stove is out. 

Georg and Claudia Keller, who have been running the bakery since January 1, 1991, decided to take this step for health reasons.

Another piece of Pasing's history breaks away - as with the closure of the Kopfmiller department store, the Farben Metzger business, the Fiebig bookstore and the Bohn textile house.

Long-standing customers have a little consolation: the Höflinger and Müller bakeries are moving into the cellar property.

And the baker couple will soon be able to sleep late in the morning.

Nevertheless, both confess: "We leave the bakery stage with one laughing and one crying eye."   

Bäckerei Keller: Pasinger has been buying pretzels, rolls and co.

The Kellers success story began in 1938 with Georg and Therese Keller. They opened a shop at Hindenburgstrasse 87 (today Bäckerstrasse) and set up a bakery next to it. The married couple Georg and Erika followed, who moved into today's property on Graefstrasse in 1960. In April 1984 they also rented a shop on Pasinger Viktualienmarkt where customers could not only shop, but also eat and drink at bar tables. After 31 years the couple withdrew and handed over to Georg and Claudia Keller. However, the two soon realized that they had little chance against the supermarkets in the area. In 2016, the shop on Viktualienmarkt came to an end. “This step was inevitable,” says Georg Keller, looking back. 

Pasing: The last bakery that produces in the district closes south of the railway axis

The thought that on New Year's Eve there will be another farewell, but this time a final one, that they will have to part with long-term regular customers, employees and part-time workers, tarnishes the joy of the Kellers at the well-deserved retirement after 31 years of tireless work. 

In the once independent town of Pasing, which was forcibly incorporated by the Nazis in 1938, there were once seven bakers.

It is hard for the couple that it is they who are now bringing a handicraft tradition to an end: South of the railway axis, the couple regret, there will then no longer be a baker in Pasing who produces in Pasing.

In the entire Pasing-Obermenzing district with more than 75,000 inhabitants, only the Müllritter bakery on Obermenzinger Sibeliusstrasse will remain.

Otherwise, according to Claudia Keller, bread, rolls and cakes are "only available from chain stores".
