The State Attorney General, Daniel Soria, presented to the National Prosecutor's Office a document in which he accuses the President of the Republic, José Pedro Castillo Terrones, of illegal taking of interest and trading in influence
", indicates in a statement the Office of the Prosecutor.
The complaint is based on the alleged meetings between entrepreneur Karelim Lopez and the president.
According to Daniel Soria, the purpose of these meetings was for Pedro Castillo to intercede on his behalf in the award of the construction site for a bridge over the Huallaga River, in the Amazon region of San Martin.
The prosecutor considers that article 117 of the Constitution does not prohibit the investigation of a sitting president.
Pedro Castillo, in power since July 28, narrowly defeated right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori in the presidential election.
Its mandate is due to end in 2026.
