UK top civil servant Simon Case has resigned as a Christmas party scout.

Cabinet Secretary Case was actually supposed to investigate whether government employees violated corona protection measures in 2020 at office Christmas parties that were officially banned at the time.

It now emerged that he had apparently tolerated such a celebration in his own department.

"In order to maintain the public's confidence in the ongoing investigation, the cabinet secretary has resigned for the remainder of the proceedings due to bias," said Boris Johnson's office on Friday evening.

Instead, Sue Gray from the Housing Department will complete the investigation.

Boris Johnson and his government are sharply criticized in public and within their own ranks for a party donation affair and alleged violations of the self-imposed corona rules.

In particular, reports of a Christmas party by Johnson's closest employees last year in the middle of the corona lockdown cause outrage.

Reports in the newspapers "The Guardian" and "The Independent" about possible violations by Johnson had recently fueled displeasure.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister is said to have briefly participated in a drink in Downing Street on May 15, 2020, despite the corona restrictions in force at the time.

Recon Case resigned after media coverage of two celebrations allegedly held in his department in December 2020.

According to the BBC, invitations were sent out, one of them entitled "Christmas Party!"

Case did not participate in the celebration, but went through the premises of his employees on the way to his office during the celebration.
