Students over the age of six will need 3G proof to use public transport during the Christmas break.

This is prescribed by the Infection Protection Act.

Munich - In order to further limit the spread of the coronavirus in Germany, the federal and state governments agreed on the introduction of a 3G obligation for the use of long-distance and local public transport * at the end of November.

Anyone who has been traveling by bus or train since then must have proof of a complete vaccination, a survived infection with the coronavirus or a daily test result.

3G compulsory on buses and trains: special rule for schoolchildren does not apply at Christmas - proof required

Only children under the age of six and schoolchildren are exempt from this rule.

The latter only need to show their student ID when checking on the bus or train.

However, this rule no longer applies from December 24th.

The reason for this is the formulation of the Infection Protection Act *, in which the measures are recorded.

In the corresponding passage it says: "The means of transport of air traffic, local public transport and long-distance public transport may only be used by passengers or air passengers (...) if they, with the exception of pupils outside the school holidays and a Transport in taxis, vaccinated people, recovered people or tested people (...). ”The special regulation for schoolchildren therefore only applies during school hours and not during holidays.

During the Christmas holidays, this regulation will apply nationwide for the first time.

Unvaccinated schoolchildren over the age of six must have a daily test result in order to be able to use local and long-distance transport.

Above all, this could make visiting relatives at Christmas more difficult for families who depend on public transport.

3G obligation for everyone: criticism of the traffic light coalition - passed into law “at the last minute”

Criticism of the regulation followed on Monday from Bavaria, among others. The Bavarian Ministry of Health announced to

Antenne Bayern

: The exception that schoolchildren are not considered tested during the holiday periods was only included in the law “at the last minute through amendments from the traffic light coalition”. Bavaria had no influence on the design. But there were also critical voices from within our own ranks. Green member of the Bundestag Dieter Janecek from Munich told the radio station: “This is particularly difficult to implement in rural areas if, for example, you first have to drive to the test station and need a bus to do so. One should approach this rule again ”.

Schoolchildren are tested for the coronavirus several times a week during school hours.

Since these tests are not carried out during the holidays, other 3G certificates must then be provided for the use of buses and trains.
