Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against Attorney General Letitia James in the city of Albany, New York.
James had started investigations against the ex-president and his companies.
Among other things, Trump wants to ensure that the democratic attorney general is no longer allowed to investigate him.
His lawyers showered Letitia James with allegations in the lawsuit.
"Her mission is solely guided by political animosity and the desire to harass, intimidate and retaliate against a private individual she regards as a political opponent," they wrote.
The investigations by the US judiciary concern, among other things, the suspicion that Trump's corporate conglomerate made false statements about the value of their real estate in order to get loans or to gain price advantages (read more here).
The ex-president had already described the investigation as a "witch hunt" in the past.
Letitia James reacted unimpressed to the lawsuit filed by Trump's lawyers.
"The Trump Organization has repeatedly tried to delay our investigations into its business, and now Donald Trump and his company of the same name have filed a lawsuit to obstruct this investigation," she said.
"Our investigation will continue undeterred, because no one is above the law, not even someone who goes by the Trump name."
There was constant speculation about Trump's ventures during the four years of his presidency.
According to calculations by "Forbes" journalist Dan Alexander, the Trump empire is at least one billion dollars in debt.
The "New York Times" had reconstructed on the basis of several tax returns that Trump is personally liable for over 400 million dollars.
