The Joe Biden administration will grant an additional 20,000 visas for seasonal temporary workers for the first time this winter.
This was announced on Monday by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS, for its acronym in English).

The department previously increased the number of visas available for the summer season, one of the busiest for bringing workers into the country.
Monday's announcement of the 20,000 additional visas is in addition to the 33,000 visas available to people employed during the first half of the fiscal year, which runs from October 1 to March 31.

"DHS implements measures to protect US businesses and create opportunities that will expand legal paths to the United States for workers from the Northern Triangle countries and Haiti," Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas said in a statement.

"In the coming months, DHS will seek to implement policies so that the H-2B program is even more responsive to the needs of our economy. At the same time that it protects the rights of both American and foreign workers," he added.
The visas will be reserved for employers seeking temporary workers before March 31 and will include spaces for people from Haiti and the Northern Triangle countries of Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.
