Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, reiterated that the Ukrainian authorities had not implemented the Minsk agreements to settle the conflict in the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine.
"Unfortunately, despite the statements that it is committed to a settlement, the Ukrainian authorities have not taken a single step to implement their obligations under the Minsk agreements," TASS news agency quoted Nebenzia as saying during a press conference today dedicated to the beginning of Russia's presidency of the UN Security Council.
The Russian diplomat called for the international community's attention should be focused on this issue, noting that the Ukrainian authorities are talking about the "impossibility of implementing the Minsk agreements", and this means that they will not do so.
The Russian delegate to the United Nations denied "linking the Russian proposals for security guarantees in Europe to the situation in Ukraine, as our Western partners do," adding that security issues in Europe are not limited to the situation around Ukraine only.
Nebenzia pointed out that the West is trying to present Russia as a party to the Minsk Agreements and demands it to implement them, while the agreements are devoid of any mention of Russia and all commitments pertain to Kiev and Donbass.
Nebenzia once again called on the Americans to influence their Ukrainian followers, accusing the American vision of the situation in Ukraine of distorting.
