Opinion | Queen Esther: The Woman Who Fought for Jonathan Pollard Israel today

2022-02-01T10:24:42.766Z

Jonathan Pollard's wife, Esther, was the only one who believed he would be released from prison and come to Israel • She sacrificed her life for the release of the one who gave his life for the Jewish people, even when everything seemed lost

The first time I met Esther Pollard was when she asked me to visit Jonathan Pollard at Butner Prison in North Carolina, in order to file a lawsuit against the state to recognize him as a prisoner of Zion.

Before our visit to the prison, she invited me to see the hotel where she lives.

It was not a hotel.

It was a musty motel of the poorest kind in the United States.

In her room she had gathered all her life.

She explained that she had to live there to be close to Jonathan.

That on the days he is entitled to receive visits, she must visit him and be there by his side, otherwise he will not last.

She was right.

She sacrificed her life to bring about his release.

She was the only one who believed that he would get out of prison and reach the place of his desire, the Land of Israel.

And for that she fought tirelessly.

Even when many abandoned in the middle of the road, even when many thought there was no chance, she was the only one who continued, and with full force and faith.

When Jonathan Pollard was asked what kept him alive during all the damned thirty years in prison, how he managed to get out of hell healthy and whole in mind and mind, he said three things gave him strength: the people of Israel who showered him with hugs and love, the God above whom he believed wholeheartedly, and his wife Esther not Stopped fighting for him for even one second.

In my last conversation with her this week, she said: "You know, we did not win any of the petitions we filed in court. Neither in the United States nor in Israel. The court has always ruled against us. "The US administration has taken another step."

Today is Rosh Chodesh Adar.

This month the story is told of Queen Esther, who the Mordecai the Jew should have called to stand up and save her people.

This is how Esther Pollard, a young Jewish girl, decided that she was sacrificing her life for the liberation of those who gave their lives for the Jewish people.

Ester the queen.
