Opinion | We are the suckers: we will continue to be silent - and pay Israel today

2022-02-01T21:18:17.017Z

We will shut up and buy, we will shut up and pay more for fuel and electricity. We can not unite for a just cause • In the end it always goes back to the right and left, Mizrahis and Ashkenazis, secular and religious

The Israeli public is not a happy public.

One housing protest a decade ago began with great fanfare, and ended with a performance by Eyal Golan and the Snake Fish in State Square.

It was not a protest, it was "Woodstock," and so it ended.

What to do, reality decides us: livelihood, Corona, the weather, and also every night there is a different reality on TV that helps us fall asleep and assure ourselves that maybe tomorrow we will go out in protest.

And it is precisely on this principle that price increases are operating these days.

The almost certain knowledge that we will shut up and buy, shut up and get revenge in the morning for work, shut up and pay even more for fuel and electricity - is what makes all the parties here raise prices.

The suckers will buy and shut up.

After all, just a week ago, a woman from the teachers' union threatened to drop out of school here, for children who have not been to school regularly for two years.

No tire burned in front of her house, no demonstration was planned.

Instead - the parents have already started to take care of the babysitter.

Surrender is perfect.

Oh, and this week we were informed that we need to check on our children twice a week.

But at the moment the state does not distribute markers, so we have to buy the markers at our expense.

I'm the sucker I'm going to stand in line to buy.

What choice do I have?

This wave of price increases will pass.

It will pass, because none of us will really take to the streets as so many countries in the world do.

It will go away on its own, with some specials on pretzels and chocolate, and maybe even cheapen the oil.

Fuel has already climbed, even though Israel is not really in trouble with fuel, and electricity is a monopoly, and in winter we do not like to lie to ourselves.

Israelis, what to do, are not built for protests that are not political.

We can not unite once for a just cause.

At the end it always goes back to the right and left, Mizrahis and Ashkenazis, secular and religious.

And when that happens, there are always people who make a profit.

Were we wrong?

Fixed!
