Strasbourg- Sana

The European Ministerial Committee on Human Rights, emanating from the European Council, agreed to impose a disciplinary measure against Turkey, against the background of its refusal to release the opposition, Osman Kavala.

And "AFP" stated that the new decision may require a move by the ministerial committee, including suspending Turkey's right to vote, leading to the possibility of its expulsion from the Council of Europe under Article 8 of its statute.

A spokesman for the Council of Europe declined to comment, saying an official statement would be issued on Thursday.

Under the rules of the Strasbourg-based council, the case will go back to the European Court of Human Rights, which will consider whether Turkey complied with a 2019 decision demanding Kavala's release.

On the third of last December, the European Council launched a disciplinary measure against Turkey against the background of its refusal to release Kavala, leaving a deadline of January 19 of this year for Turkey to respond, after which the European Commission would refer the case again to the European Court of Human Rights at its meeting on the second of December. February.

It is noteworthy that this is the second time that the Council of Europe has used these measures against one of the 47 member countries.
