Gu Siyao, a well-known social activist who has been imprisoned 11 times, was arrested by the National Security Department of the police early yesterday (February 4).
Police said the National Security Division of the Police Force yesterday (February 4) charged a 75-year-old man with "attempting to commit or preparing to commit an act with seditious intent" under Section 10 of the Crimes Ordinance.
The case appeared in the West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts this morning (February 5).
Gu Siyao originally planned to go to the Liaison Office yesterday morning to petition to protest the central government's disregard for arrested Hong Kong citizens and politicians, and only "whitewashing the peace" to organize the Winter Olympics.
However, at around 6 am yesterday, a number of police officers from the National Security Department went to Wing Shing Industrial Building, Castle Peak Road, Cheung Sha Wan, to arrest Gu Siyao. "Female Long Hair" Lei Yulian, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Labour Party Chen Jinsong, former Democratic Party member Feng Jingwen and the Four people, Chen Yiming, a transporter, were also taken away to assist in the investigation.
Gu Siyao, 75, has been prosecuted several times for his participation in social movements.
Since 2000, he has been imprisoned 11 times. He was released from prison on July 23 last year. Gu Siyao believes that the 11 times in prison is not the last time. In the future, he will continue to burn the five-star flag and deliberately violate the Hong Kong National Security Law.
The year before last, he was diagnosed with rectal cancer.
