Ski resorts: the difficult post-snow transition

In Métabief (Jura), the count has begun.

In March 2021, the mixed union of Mont-d'Or (SMMO, group of communities operating the resort's slopes), set the foreseeable end of alpine skiing by 2030-2035.

He decided to no longer invest in new ski lifts and content himself with ensuring the maintenance of those in place.

About twenty in total, on an area of ​​40 kilometers of slopes located between 900 and 1400 meters above sea level.

“Since 2016, we have been working on a new tourism model, less dependent on snow,

says Olivier Erard, director of the SMMO.

The pandemic has reinforced the idea that customer behaviors are changing and that they are ready to opt for something other than skiing.

We don't know yet what we're going to do.

We still have some time to build this new model.”
