The Directorate of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform in Daraa governorate monitored the sudden migration and death of some types of bees in areas of the governorate in a phenomenon that is the first of its kind.
The Director of Agriculture, Engineer Bassam Al-Hashish, said in a statement to SANA reporter today that this phenomenon emerged in the Nawa and Khirbet Ghazala areas about ten days ago, and samples were taken and sent to the laboratories of the Ministry of Agriculture to develop appropriate solutions.
Hashish pointed out that the initial look at the phenomenon, and before the results of the analyzes appeared, indicated a suspicion of infection with Varroa and Neosima, calling on breeders to pay attention to the issue of breeding in volatile weather conditions and to treat suspected diseases as quickly as possible.
Al-Hashish indicated that the Daraa governorate has about 35,000 hives spread in all regions, especially the western ones, which have pastures, and the annual production of honey is 120 tons.
The Ministry of Agriculture conducts the necessary laboratory tests and analyzes to determine the causes of the phenomenon, along with developing appropriate solutions and procedures.
