A British study warned of the accelerating increase in the levels of methane gas present in the atmosphere.
According to the British Daily Mail website, researchers from University College London in the United Kingdom explained that methane in the atmosphere exceeded 1900 parts per billion, which is equivalent to three levels than it was before the industrial revolution, according to data from aircraft and private satellites to track methane.
The researchers pointed out that they created computer models to understand the reason for the increase, as methane is 28 times stronger than carbon dioxide, which will lead to larger and faster increases in average global temperatures.
“Methane levels are growing at a dangerous speed and are now a major threat to global efforts to reduce global warming,” said Ewan Nisbett, an earth scientist at University College London, noting that the significant increase in methane levels is caused by direct human activities, including the expansion of oil and gas use and emissions. from landfills.
Methane is a dangerous and potent greenhouse gas and its sources range from natural wetlands to human activity.
