The seductive and on that occasion dark writer Bioy Casares imagined in his novel
Diario de la Guerra del Pig
that for no explainable reason the staff decided to hunt down and exterminate all the old men in the big city.
Technology and so many vultures who are getting outrageously rich with it have decided to kill the inept elderly through helplessness.
They are strangled by the banks, the Administration, the bureaucracy, the medical services, the Treasury, politicians, the canine civil service, all those who have discovered their paradise on the internet and try to impose it on those who are not capable or do not want to function in it. .
But a retired urologist appears who dares to shout at this barbarity.
And the urban hero receives endless accessions.
The filthy banks get scared, they say they're going to be good from now on, that they're going to have mercy on those old folks they've evicted.
And the politicians will include them in their bastard roll.
In my job as a solitary walker, I come across elderly people on the streets every day.
Most of them walk with effort, with a watery look, or resigned, or alive, leaning on their cane or their crutch, accompanied by those who have that luck, feeding on the light and the sun.
And I wonder what awaits them on their return home.
I would like to think that many of them survive thanks to their happy memories, or that if their eyesight and hobby do not fail them, the time of devastation will be shorter thanks to their reading.
But I suspect that the only home company for many of them will be television.
Without economic or technical possibilities to payment platforms.
And it's terrifying how they can feel with that disgusting television.
I imagine that scared with what it spreads without haste and without pauses.
Infinite stupidity about famous hepatic personalities, but above all the empire of sensationalism, crimes, rapes, threats, gender violence (the most longed for by the media), survival or future threats of the pandemic.
And if their fear is not enough with the continuous apotheosis of all these misfortunes, they are also morbidly informed of the probable outbreak of the Third World War.
I wouldn't be surprised if some want to die.
