Syrian expatriate runner Imad Barakat won second place in the Dubai Desert Race for the sixty-year category, with a wide participation of world runners.
The runner Barakat was born in Damascus in 1963 and moved in 1999 to live in Slovakia, and despite holding Slovak citizenship, he insists on representing his mother country, Syria, in international marathons and raising his flag in all competitions.
Barakat has achieved many achievements, most notably the title of the world championship in the Moroccan desert race in 2013 for a distance of 250 km, the second place in the world championship in the Omani desert race for a distance of 165 km four times in a row, fourth place in the Austrian International Marathon for a distance of 75 km and third place for seven years in the marathon races that It was held in Slovakia and other European countries.
