A shark killed today (Wednesday) washes a beach in the city of Sydney, in the first fatal incident in the city in nearly 60 years.
Eyewitnesses told local media that the victim was wearing a surfing suit, and authorities said he suffered "catastrophic injuries" and could not be rescued.
The beach was closed following the rare attack, which the city has not seen since 1963.
"Someone swam and then the shark came and attacked it vertically," Chris Linto said, an eyewitness.
"We heard a scream and when we got around it looked like a car had landed in the water, splashed everywhere, then the shark chewed the body and there was blood everywhere."
An eyewitness, a demon near the scene, estimated that the shark was four and a half feet in size.
