Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth sees herself confirmed in holding on to the Berlin Film Festival even in Corona times.

"It was the right decision to let the Berlinale take place live despite the pandemic," said the Green politician in a statement on Wednesday.

"For the love of film" the venture was tackled together with the Berlin Senate and the festival directors Mariette Rissenbeek and Carlo Chatrian.

Berlin - "The film and the cinema as a whole won," said Roth.

"Thus, the 72nd Berlinale has once again shown its stance under really difficult circumstances as the most political of the major international film festivals." The Berlinale films opened up important perspectives on the past, present and future again this year.

"I very much hope that many of the films shown at the Berlinale will also be successful in the cinemas." dpa
