Francesco Chiarello,
the 33-year-old teacher who set himself on fire in front of the barracks of the Compagnia dei Carabinieri on 31 January in Rende (Cosenza),
died .
Chiarello was hospitalized in the center for severe burns of the Cardarelli hospital in Naples.
The teacher had undergone some surgeries due to his injuries, but his condition had always remained serious.
The man was first hospitalized in the Annunziata hospital in Cosenza and then transferred to Naples due to the severity of the burns.
The reasons for the gesture made by Chiarello have never been clarified.
In particular, it was excluded, in relation to the place chosen by Chiarello to set himself on fire, that the teacher intended to send a message to the carabinieri, who had never investigated him and to whom he had never presented complaints of any kind.
Chiarello had returned to Rende, where he resided, after having asked the head of the school in Lombardy where he taught on the basis, according to what has been learned, of a position that was renewed annually.
