Kabul – In Afghanistan* a child has been trapped in a well for at least two days.

A boy of about six years old fell in the hole in Jaldak district (Sabul province).

Two representatives of the ruling militant Islamist Taliban confirmed this to the dpa news agency on February 17.

So far, four rescue attempts have failed.

Recently there have also been problems with the machines used.

However, new equipment from the neighboring province of Kandahar should arrive shortly.

Authorities tried their best and used all available means to save the boy, it said.

The boy is now weaker, but rescue workers can still hear his voice.

He was given water and some food.

The rescue work is made more difficult by the fact that the well is generally very narrow, has a slight curve and a larger stone blocks access.

Initially, the child was at a depth of seven or eight meters, but after attempts by villagers to rescue it, it is now believed to be around 15 meters deep.

It suffered minor injuries.

Among other things, attempts are being made to dig a second hole at an angle to the well in order to get to the child.

Videos and pictures shared on social media showed excavators being used.

Just recently, a boy in Morocco fell into a hole more than 30 meters deep - he could only be recovered dead.
