Russia reiterated its sovereign right to maintain its security and maintain its forces in areas it deems appropriate.
"It is our sovereign right to think about our national security and to keep our forces where we think they are important for us to defend the Russian Federation," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin was quoted by Sputnik news agency as saying today.
The United States and Western countries accuse Russia of preparing a military attack on Ukraine, which Moscow denies, considering the accusations as a pretext to increase NATO's military presence near its borders.
