The Russian Foreign Ministry announced today the expulsion of US Deputy Ambassador to Moscow Bartel Gorman, noting that it had taken this decision in response to the unjustified expulsion of a diplomat at the Russian Embassy in Washington by the US authorities.
“The American diplomat has already been ordered to leave Russia, but this came in response to the unjustified expulsion of the Minister Counselor at our embassy in Washington,” Sputnik news agency quoted Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova as saying in a comment posted on the official website of the Foreign Ministry. The US deliberately ignored Moscow’s request to extend his stay until the arrival of an alternative.”
Zakharova added that the Russian diplomat was eventually forced to leave without an alternative, which exacerbated the already severe shortage of personnel in the Russian diplomatic mission, which was formed as a result of the visa war launched by the Americans.
The US State Department announced today that Russia has expelled the second official at the US Embassy in Moscow, Bartel Gorman.
