(A+) Ukraine: How a German experienced Putin's attack in Kiev

2022-02-25T05:04:39.741Z

The Ukrainians have been living with the threat from Moscow for years. But hardly anyone expected Putin to attack the whole country. A German in Kiev tries to explain why he doesn't want to leave his adopted country despite the danger.

"This world will be different after this Russia crisis," German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said recently.

A world that Putin has just turned completely upside down with his attack on Ukraine.

In the new episode of SPIEGEL Daily, host Juan Moreno talks to Tobias Weihmann, a software developer who has been living in Kiev with his Ukrainian wife and child since 2015.

Unlike many other Germans who have since left Ukraine, Weihmann has decided not to leave his adopted country for the time being.

He says there is currently a "shocked calm" in the capital.
