Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, during a telephone conversation with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, denied allegations by some Western media that Belarus intends to deploy nuclear weapons on its territory.

The Belarusian news agency Belta reported that Lukashenko and Macron discussed the situation in Ukraine and the future of Europe, where the Belarusian president stressed that these Western allegations are false, and said, "If the Belarusian people are not strangled, conventional weapons are out of the question, let alone nuclear weapons."

Lukashenko had announced today that his country is ready to provide a platform for peaceful negotiations to settle the conflict in Ukraine. He told reporters, "Let them come to Minsk. We will fully support and support the cessation of the war... At the present time, this conflict is in the ignition stage and must be stopped, and this is our position from the first day."

In a related context, Hungary offered to hold direct negotiations in Budapest between Russia and Ukraine. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said today, "We are working to organize negotiations, and for this I will discuss with representatives of the Russian and Ukrainian governments the start of direct negotiations in Budapest."

Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his readiness to send a Russian delegation to Minsk to conduct negotiations with the Ukrainian regime, but the latter refused to start talks, citing the inappropriate Russian conditions.
