Countries have closed the skies to Russian planes, and in response Russia will not allow British, Polish, Czech and Bulgarian planes to pass over its territory.
In terms of the world aviation map, the decision of those four countries is very significant as Russia covers a huge area, which is a significant part of the flight route from those countries to many Asian countries and back.
Airlines from those countries will now have to fly bypass routes, which will cost them more money, extend the duration of the flight and may also increase costs in everything related to flight tickets.
Britain, Poland, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria are the first, and there is a high probability that more countries will join the move.
If the trend expands, the decisions could significantly affect many flights around the world - in prices and flight routes.
The dramatic decisions are made as many Asian countries open their doors, and many Israelis choose to fly to Asia through intermediate destinations that may also be restricted on flights over Russia in case they join a protest against Russian airlines.
Assessment: The sky will continue to close
It is still unclear whether Israel will join the protest and restrict Russian airlines.
If such a thing happens, it is likely that Russia will decide to act in the same way and thus Israeli flights to quite a few destinations will be affected.
The restrictions resulting from the war come at a time when Israel is facing an aviation crisis with Dubai, with Israeli airlines restricted flights to Dubai due to security disputes.
Dubai has a significant share in Israelis' flights to the east, as it is a short and fast route that should also be cheaper.
But, as mentioned, at the moment the number of direct flights to Dubai is limited, and they may be completely stopped on March 8 if no solution is found within this time frame.
The skies over Ukraine are almost completely empty of aircraft traffic, and so Russia's restrictions on major airlines in Europe are joining Ukrainian territory that cannot be flown over.
In doing so, a very significant area from Europe and Asia is closed to flights by quite a few airlines, and it is estimated that the trend will expand later as the war develops.
