The war between Russia and Ukraine affects citizens.
Signs of solidarity were set in Geretsried.
Geretsried – Russian forces attacked the neighboring country on Thursday night.
Since then, images of the shelling of the capital Kiev and other cities, as well as of desperate people fleeing and destroyed buildings, have dominated the daily press and social media.
In order to express their solidarity with the Ukrainians, about 30 citizens met on Friday at the village square in Gelting after a call from Geretsrieder Martin Kern, among them Wolfratshausen's third mayor Annette Heinloth.

"We want to express our solidarity with the Ukrainian people," said initiator Kern.
He had also called for a rally on Karl-Lederer-Platz via the social network Facebook for Sunday.
"Despite the past two tough years under Corona, we should stand up for our values and our neighbors, for our children and our own future," he explains.

The city of Geretsried also sent a signal by hoisting the flag of the global alliance "Mayors for Peace" in front of the town hall.
In addition, the town hall was lit up in the Ukrainian national colors of blue and yellow on Friday evening.
As was the case with the projection of the fairy tale advent calendar in December, the Wolfratshausen software engineer Alfred Fraas is behind the light installation.
The lights are expected to be on until dusk on Wednesday.
