Russia's attack on Ukraine is causing countless people to flee the war.

A Bavarian town near the border is also preparing to help.

Passau - The war in Ukraine is driving many people to flee west.

The city of Passau is now making preparations.

“We view the current situation in Ukraine with great concern.

Such a war was unimaginable for all of us.

Our thoughts are with the Ukrainians, who fear for their lives," Mayor Jürgen Dupper said on Facebook at the weekend.

The city is now preparing for the event that numerous refugees from Ukraine also arrive in the city of Passau.

To this end, Dupper has set up an internal administration coordination group to prepare the necessary steps.

The first port of call for large numbers of refugees is the Dreiländerhalle.

“As in previous emergency situations such as

B. flood, migration or pandemic, the city of Passau fortunately can fall back on a very reliable network of rescue and aid organizations as well as an efficient state and municipal administration," the city continued on Facebook.

There is a lot of support in the comments.

“Now Europe has to stick together and we too have to help where we can.

Thanks to the city of Passau for responding so quickly.”

And another person commented: "Together we can do it!

Each individual can contribute a little bit.

They are all innocent people, children and civilians who are fleeing from an absolutely senseless war." There is a lot of helpfulness in the comments: "Thank you Mr. Dupper and everyone responsible in the city of Passau!

Let me know what man/woman can do, I'm happy to help!"

Attack on Ukraine: district of Passau prepares for war refugees

The district of Passau is also preparing for the influx of refugees: “It is currently not yet possible to foresee which routes and paths the Ukrainians will use.

Nevertheless, the district of Passau is already making preparations to be prepared in an emergency," said the district office on Saturday.

District Administrator Raimund Kneidinger convened a crisis team with representatives of all relevant authorities and organizations on Friday to prepare an emergency plan.

It cannot be ruled out that refugees will also come to Germany via the Bavarian-Austrian border.

"We must therefore use the time now to be able to provide rapid humanitarian first aid if necessary."

It goes without saying that the district of Passau also makes its contribution to offering protection and help to people threatened by war and violence, the district administrator explains.

"But we also need the support of the federal and state governments to be able to act as quickly and unbureaucratically as possible," Kneidinger continues.
