Russia's war against Ukraine is shaking Europe and the world.

With up-to-date maps and visualizations, we are constantly monitoring the conflict and its effects.

Kyiv - The Russian invasion of Ukraine has brought much suffering and destruction to the country and its people since it began in late February 2022.

One end is not foreseen.

Even if the situation, as in all wars, is extremely confusing and dynamic, we from the data journalism team at IPPEN.MEDIA always want to help with the classification and new findings.

That is what this article is for - with the best possible attempt to take

a look at the situation on the ground in Ukraine in the form of

maps and graphs .

For this purpose, we will provide an updated data card about the current status of the Russian conquests at least once a day until further notice.

In this article “Ukraine War*: The Russian Invasion in Maps and Graphics”, however, the

manifold effects of the conflict with Russia

and other dimensions will also be discussed again and again.

These can be military, but also political, economic or social in nature.

Here, too, it is about the approach of making the incomprehensible visually at least a little less incomprehensible.

We are very grateful for general comments and suggestions - we look forward to an email to datenteam@zentralredaktion.news.

Map: Russian conquests (02/25 to 02/28)

Air and sea attacks across the country made up the first wave of the war.

Maps on the first day showed the enormous number of attacks by Russia falling on Ukraine.

The second wave of the Ukraine war began the day after - and with it the actual ground war begins.

As the latest analyzed data shows, Russia is gaining control of more and more Ukrainian territory - and seems to be advancing ever further towards Kyiv.

Data Analysis: Cyber Attacks on Ukrainian Ministries (02/24)

Only a simple error message appears in the browser.

Anyone who called up the official websites of Ukrainian ministries late Thursday evening usually ended up in a dead end.

"Page not available" it said or "Access denied".

A technical analysis by IPPEN.MEDIA during the Ukraine war now shows: almost half of the ministry pages are technically unavailable or only available to a very limited extent.

It started on Wednesday at the latest, and now there are more and more.

This applies, for example, to the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Ukraine as well as the Ministry of the Interior.

This has coincided with numerous reports of cyber attacks by Russian state or state-sponsored groups.

To the whole story.

So now there is war in Eastern Europe.

Many expected him to come.

However, just a few hours after it began, the current Russia-Ukraine conflict* showed that the Russian attacks were by no means just concentrated on the Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

Instead, reports of explosions, military movements and rocket attacks are coming from all parts of the country.

Our data map shows attacks confirmed by multiple sources on Thursday, February 24, 2022.

To the whole story

Map: Ukraine between Russia and NATO (02/22)

Ukraine is not a member of either NATO or the EU.

At the same time, the country is also geographically closer to Europe than many people realize: it is only a few hours' drive from Berlin to Kyiv.

At the same time, our map also shows how, in addition to Belarus, Ukraine in particular lies as a block of countries between Russia and NATO.

Belarus was one of four republics that became the Soviet Union in 1922.

We have drawn its course in red - it also makes clear a starting point for today's conflict and war.
