Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced that Washington's expulsion of 12 diplomats from the Russian mission to the United Nations in New York "will not go unanswered."
Zakharova said that this US move constitutes a "deliberate and ridiculous escalation in the level of Russian-American relations, and a violation of the United States' commitments to the International Convention on Standards for Hosting the United Nations on its soil."
Zakharova warned that the administration of US President Joe Biden continues to completely destroy the foundations of relations in addition to undermining the central role of the United Nations in an attempt to impose the notorious “rules-based world order” dictated by the United States and its followers. Moscow wants to increase pressure, blackmail and intimidation, weaken our position and deprive us of the opportunity to work fully in the international organization, pointing out that the despicable American tricks are not new to anyone, as Washington repeatedly tries, after losing in the diplomatic field, to take revenge, taking advantage of the presence of the United Nations headquarters on its soil by the will of fate.
Zakharova stressed that the expulsion of Russian diplomats will not pass without an appropriate response and answer, and that the reaction is not necessarily the same, advising officials in Washington to think about the consequences of their destructive line.
Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, announced last Monday that the United States had asked 12 Russian diplomats to the United Nations to leave American soil.
