STORY – While the country is under bombs, the disarray of these couples goes badly with opponents of surrogacy.

The war sheds a harsh light on the surrogacy business in Ukraine.

The fate of surrogate mothers, who often leave to live in apartments rented by clinics before childbirth, far from their family and their own children, worries.

Authorized since 2002 in Ukraine, surrogacy is reserved for married heterosexuals who are infertile.

Less expensive than in the United States, surrogacy is priced between 40,000 and 60,000 euros on average.

“The good they paid for”

Surrogate mothers receive around 10,000 euros to rent their womb.

“No one is in a position to say how these mothers and children are going to be taken care of in the midst of this war.

Maternities have been moved following the bombardments.

Babies will be born in cellars.

My fear is that they will be made to give birth more quickly, by artificial induction or by caesarean section, to meet the demand of clients”
