Berlin's Senator for Social Affairs, Katja Kipping (left), assumes that at least 8,500 to 10,000 more Ukraine refugees will arrive in the capital on Friday.

She said that in the afternoon at an online meeting of the Left Group in the Berlin House of Representatives.

This would continue the upward trend of the past few days:

Berlin - On Thursday, at least 6,000 refugees arrived in the capital by train, Kipping said.

Others came by bus or car.

According to Kipping, many of the refugees continue to travel to other regions.

Based on past experience, about a third of the arrivals who stay in Berlin would have to be accommodated by the Senate.

The rest would find accommodation here privately.

On Monday, the Senate housed 350 people in Berlin who arrived after the Russian attack on Ukraine.

On Tuesday there were 1,400 and on Wednesday 1,700, with 1,000 of them now being accommodated in the neighboring state of Brandenburg.

On Thursday, the state of Berlin provided accommodation for 1,400 refugees.

Kipping once again spoke of the tip of the iceberg and what was probably the largest flight movement in Europe after the Second World War.

"It is all the more important that everyone acts on the level of the challenge and does not turn a blind eye," said Kipping, criticizing the federal government.

"I fear that a large part (...) at least in the federal government has not realized the dimension with which we are already dealing and, above all, what is still to come," she said.

"Well, if I still hear the federal government rambling yesterday, well, 5,000 people are already registered, I can only say: In which world do they live?" dpa
