In Haag, in addition to classic graves, there will soon also be the option of tree burials.

Haag

– In addition to the classic graves, near-natural burials will also be possible in future at the municipal cemetery in Haag.

The possibility of tree burial, in which biodegradable urns are buried around the birch tree in the eastern area of the cemetery, was decided by the municipal council in 2021.

The special pipes that are required for this will be purchased soon.

Two offers from companies were presented to the municipal councils at the most recent meeting.

The offer sum of 4150.72 euros for earth pipes made of stainless steel with the associated granite slabs for covering was rejected by the councils.

One should opt for open-pored concrete, advised Mayor Anton Geier.

This is more suitable for urns that are designed for a process of decay and rot by themselves in the ground after some time.

Water and air could penetrate better through the porous concrete.

Eight such tubes, each with a capacity of two urns, would fit around the birch at the cemetery, Geier said.

The council unanimously approved the bid of almost 1,500 euros for the pipes made of porous concrete.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Municipal councilor Elisabeth Maier wanted to know whether something like a family grave could be created there.

This must be recorded in detail in the cemetery statute, emphasized the head of the Hague town hall.

But that will be discussed later.

As more and more people opt for cremation, urn walls and trees under which the ashes of loved ones can find their place will probably play a greater role in the future, the mayor said.

The form in which the deceased is then remembered - be it with small steles made of wood or granite slabs - is also determined later in the cemetery statutes.
